Dr. Tien T Nguyen

Personal Details

Tien Nguyen, MD is a neurosurgeon with specialty training in endoscopic, minimally invasive brain and spine surgery and in pediatric neurosurgery. He has written numerous articles in peer-reviewed publications in journals, such as Neurosurgery, Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Psychiatry, Pediatric Neurosurgery, and Journal of the American Chemical Society, and has authored chapters in textbooks on pediatric brain tumors and congenital malformations. He has been an invited speaker at numerous national and international symposiums. He is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, American Academy for Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine, and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons.

Dr. Nguyen received his bachelor’s degree from Occidental College and his medical degree from New York Medical College. He completed his residency in neurosurgery at SUNY Upstate Medical University under the guidance of Dr. Charles J. Hodge. During his residency he trained with world-renowned spine surgeons Drs. Bruce Fredrickson, Hansen Yuan, and Ken Yonemura. He then obtained further subspecialty training in Pediatric Neurosurgery under the directorship of Dr. J. Gordon McComb at the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

In 2003, after completing his extensive training, Dr. Nguyen was appointed to the staff in the Division of Neurosurgery at UCLA. He has been the recipient of the Faculty Teaching Award for the three years he was an attending.

Dr. Nguyen has recently joined the Orange County Brain & Spine Group where he will continue to utilize cutting edge neurosurgical technology utilizing state-of-the art 3-D imaging, computer guided surgical equipment, advanced spinal instrumentation, and endoscopic/minimally invasive keyhole brain and spine surgery.

Dr. Nguyen is a member of the board of Global Neuro Rescue, a missionary organization created by Dr. Jorge Lazareff at UCLA. GNR has delivered free neurosurgical care to children in disadvantaged countries, such as Guatemala, Dominican Republic, Romania, and China, and shares surgical expertise with physicians of the host countries.
